About BAMHA

BAMHA Mission

BAHMA delivers comprehensive therapeutic services for children, individuals, and families to promote health and wellness by building on individual, family, and community strengths.

BAMHA Values

  • Diversity: BAMHA is committed to providing services that are sensitive, inclusive and responsive to our community. This includes respectful understanding of the different ways adults, families and children seek help and participate in treatment.

  • Empowerment: BAMHA believes that all individuals have the ability to learn and grow, to strive toward their full potential and to lead satisfying lives within their families and their communities.

  • Collaboration: BAMHA promotes a collaborative approach to treatment by developing partnerships with clients, their communities, and organizations that share our mission of service. Internally, an interdisciplinary approach based on teamwork is encouraged.

  • Respect: BAMHA respects the strengths that individuals and families bring to treatment and work to identify and build on those strengths. BAMHA also recognizes the value and contribution made by each employee.

History

Started in 1965 as one of the nation's first community mental health centers, BAMHA was created to provide behavioral health services for children, adolescents and adults in the Brighton and Allston communities. BAMHA continues to provide effective, community-integrated mental health services through programs that extend our reach well beyond the walls of our clinic and into the fabric of our community.

BAMHA has a rich tradition of providing services to the Allston-Brighton community. In July, 2000, The Walker Home and School and The Italian Home for Children purchased BAMHA. Both are renowned for providing state of the art long- and short-term residential and educational services to children. This affiliation has enabled our three agencies to offer a true continuum of care including residential, after school, outpatient, school and community-based services to the Greater Boston area.
